13th April 2014 – Some skua action…

Even though it’s still a bit early for the main ‘skua season’, today’s stiff westerly breeze on the Solway made me decide to spend a few hours watching the tide. For the first hour or so I began to think that I was completely wasting my time – not even a Kittiwake had gone through let alone a skua. However, despite the very slow start by the finish I’d seen 2 Arctic Skuas and 6 Bonxies, as well as about 15 Gannets plus the usual Red-throated Divers and a few groups of Kittiwakes. A fly-by Little Egret was my first on a ‘seawatch’…

    It’s a good start – hopefully it will be a fantastic (almost wrote great) skua year. I always get excited seeing your photos of the skuas .
