5th January 2012 – American Wigeon & Long-tailed Duck

I decided to have a short trip just up the M74 to Lochmaben this morning to search for the returning American Wigeon that is reported regularly from the area, mostly from Kirk Loch. It was still very windy but I soon located it amongst the Eurasian Wigeon on the far shore opposite the car park, unfortunately it was as far away as it could’ve been, giving me another good excuse for taking crap pics!

We then had a stroll around Soddy Gap near Little Broughton. This was the first time I’ve been here and we all had an enjoyable walk on what turned out to be a lovely sunny afternoon. The wintering Long-tailed Duck was giving me the runaround though, eventually I found it hiding amongst the Goosanders on the main pool.
