13th November 2011 – Big Legs is back…

An early morning phone call from my ‘extreme twitcher’ matey Matt Mulvey telling me that he was watching the Greater Yellowlegs had me quickly out of bed and in the car again. Would today be successful after its erratic appearances yesterday? You betcha!! Less than 2hrs later we had arrived at Hauxley NR near Amble and after a hasty walk to Wader Hide the bird was ‘in the bag’. As expected the hide was chockablock full of birders, tripods, scopes and cameras clicking away. It was a squeeze in there for sure but I was soon getting stonking views of it alongside the 1w Grey Phalarope – bonkers or what?

A little further south at Marden Quarry a juvenile Lesser Scaup was seen through the gloom…
