5th September 2011 – Little Stints are the highlight

An enjoyable hour or so on the rising tide at Port Carlisle produced some decent birds. Three juvenile Little Stints were the best of the waders on show, with support coming in the form of 3 Greenshanks, 8 juvenile Curlew Sands and an adult Spotted Redshank. All the waders took flight when a Peregrine began hunting over the Solway, singling out a small wader and pursuing it until the Peregrine took the bird mid-flight. Always breathtaking watching Peregrines hunting the waders.

Nearby another two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers were found roosting…

Yesterday an impressive 350+ Knot were present.
