19th July 2011 – Wader numbers rising

Over the last 10 days or so regular visits to my patch has seen a notable and sudden increase in wader numbers, with Dunlin and Redshank now into the thousands. Today I noted my first returning Red Knot, five smart summer-plumaged birds and one ‘grey’ bird. Also today my first returning Sanderling (one adult). Two or three Common Sands are regular at the moment plus about one hundred Golden Plover. A nice surprise was two calling Willow Tits. My eyepiece is still not back from Leica. Aaarrrrghhh!! Need it back bad. Can’t digiscope without it, what if I find a distant Red-necked Stint? Dream on…..
