24th & 25th April 2011 – Wood Warbler wows in gorgeous Gelt…

More glorious sunshine today and finally a full day off to enjoy it. Geltsdale seemed like a good idea, a relaxing family walk, beautiful scenery and some great birding too.

After paddling in the Gelt for ages we began the walk, and a Garden Warbler was soon on the year list, singing away from dense cover. As we climbed the path we began to see Green Hairstreaks everywhere…

The woodland was alive with bird song, Pied Fly, Tree Pipit, Redstart and the star of the show – a Wood Warbler singing in the distance. With each step the song became louder and louder until finally I saw him…

Then, with lots of patience, I eventually got some photos I was pleased with…
