21st March 2011 – Yellow-legged Gull in Cumbria

A stunning adult Yellow-legged Gull was discovered by Tristan Reid at Whitehaven Marina on Saturday whilst I was away, so today I was very keen to catch up with this real rarity in Cumbria. I’d only ever seen one in the county before which was way back in July 2004. The bird was initially seen on rooftops beside the Vagabond Pub before flying onto one of the piers.

A little further north at Workington the Purple Sands were showing superbly.
