19th March 2011 – Dove delight

Well at long last I got a weekend off from work and decided to visit relatives in the midlands – which coincidentally is about 30 miles from Chipping Norton – the location for the long-staying Rufous Turtle Dove. Since it’s arrival some time ago I’d not been too bothered to be honest, after all, work priorities and family commitments come first and the stories of hundreds of twitchers over the first few days did little to tempt me. Thankfully now it’s just the tardy twitchers like myself who are going, and so we joined the dozen or so others in the owners kitchen early on Saturday morning. All went perfectly, the dove was on view in the back garden as soon as we arrived and continued to stroll around for the duration of our stay. No stress, no pushing and shoving, no loudmouth idiots, a great host and superb views. Great stuff.
