3rd October – Early Twite the highlight

It rained until early afternoon but I had a ride out after it brightened up a bit. Anthorn was my first stop, but as is often the case here not a lot on offer – 2 Ruff being the best. A little further round towards Cardurnock a late White Wagtail was found with Meadow Pipits, while a flock of Linnets feeding on the saltmarsh contained 3 Twite – quite an early autumn record, well for me anyway. A Little Egret was on the scrape at Campfield but little else. Along the edge of the Gravel Pits I saw Blackcap, a few Chiffchaffs, Treecreeper and heard Willow Tit, while another Little Egret was seen at Port Carlisle.
