A little further down the coast there was a Dusky Warbler at Tynemouth favouring the scrub at the base of the pier. This was my fifth Dusky, but my first for some time so it was nice to refresh myself with the call and plumage subtleties. It was a very vocal and often showy little bird.
Whilst watching the Dusky a Short-eared Owl flew in off the sea and over the assembled birders.
